UNDERSTANDING THE SIGNS
Bed bug signs: what to look for and what to ask.

Look for evidence in the room
Start with accessible mattress seams, the bed frame, headboard and nearby seating. Crawling insects, repeated dark spotting or shed material are useful signs to describe, but an isolated mark is not a confirmed identification.
Do not dismantle heavy furniture or remove electrical covers to investigate. A description of the location and what you saw can help arrange the next step.
The skin cannot identify the source on its own
A line, cluster or itchy mark does not confirm bed bugs. Reactions vary and other causes are possible. Combine your observations with evidence around sleeping and resting areas.
An infestation does not establish its origin
Travel, luggage, second-hand items and shared accommodation can be useful context. Bed bugs are not evidence of poor housekeeping, and the exact source may never be clear. You do not need to prove how they arrived before asking for help.
Discuss a removal plan
The method, household needs and follow-up belong in the same conversation.
